Difference Between Manufacturing Methods Of Fused Cast Alumina Block And AZS

Fused cast alumina block has unique structure and properties. When combined with fused cast AZS, it can greatly prolong the service life of glass furnaces and reduce pollution and glass defects. The manufacturing method of fused cast alumina block is similar to that of fused cast AZS. However, due to properties of raw materials, their manufacturing methods are a little different.

Fused cast beta alumina block is produced by melting and casting high purity alumina in electric furnace at 2000℃. Fused cast AZS block is made from pure alumina powder and Zircon sand (composed of 65% zirconia and 34% SiO2). Properties of their main raw materials are quite different. The Al2O3 melt features low viscosity and strong crystallization ability, so its solidification is too fast to degas and the products have high porosity.

Fused cast alumina block is melted by the oxidizing method. The melting process has a great effect on its density. Fused cast AZS block can be melted by the oxidizing method or reducing method. Fused cast alumina block has a higher melting point of 2300～2500℃ than fused cast AZS. At such a high temperature, the melt will be expanded greatly, which will cause large shrinkage cavities and make it difficult to obtain dense and uniform products. So some additions should be added to reduce the melting temperature.

The casting temperature of fused cast alumina block is also higher than that of fused cast AZS, at 1960～2400℃. The volume of the riser of PT casting takes up of 20% of the volume of the casting.

The casting products should be removed from the mold and then put into the insulating box. The annealing temperature of fused cast alumina is higher than that of fused cast AZS, so it has a higher requirement for the insulating effect of the insulating box in order to prevent cracking and make the crystal dense.
