$Refractory Materials Used In Cement Kilns$

The refractory materials used in cement kilns generally include basic refractories, Al2O3-SiO2 refractories, insulation materials and monolithic materials.

Basic refractories

Basic refractories used in cement kilns include magnesia chrome brick, magnesia brick, spinel brick and dolomite brick. It is mainly used in the firing zone, transition zone and kiln mouth. Spinel brick has been one of the most widely used lining materials in large cement kilns. It gradually replaces magnesia chrome brick to be used in the transition zone, cooling zone, kilns mouth and even firing zone.

Basic refractories have bad thermal shock resistance. During use, the key is the hanging of kiln skin. As long as the thickness of kiln skin can be maintained about 200-300mm, the drawback of bad thermal shock resistance can be remedied. The key to the application of spinel brick in the firing zone is also the hanging of kiln skin. The key to the use of dolomite brick is to prevent hydration of CaO.

Al2O3-SiO2 refractories

The requirements for Al2O3-SiO2 refractories used in cement kilns include good wear resistance, alkali resistance and thermal shock resistance. A series of special high alumina bricks have been developed to meet the requirements. Zirconite and SiC are added to improve the performace of Al2O3-SiO2 refractories.

Alkali resistant brick

Alkali resistant brick is a type of semi-silica brick. It can be categorized into common brick, super brick, insulation brick and vault type brick. During use, it can rapidly react with the alkalis in the kiln and form a closed dense protective layer glaze which can prevent the diffusion of alkalis. It is the main materials used in the kiln inlet of dry cement kilns.

Insulation materials

The insulation materials for the cement kiln include insulation brick, insulation board and light weight castable. They used to reduce the temperature of the kiln surface, heat loss, weight load and construction cost.

Monolithic Materials

Monolithic materials is easy to use and is more and more widely used in cement kilns, especially the preheater. Refractory castable is one kind of monolithic materials. Refractory castables used in cement kilns include corundum castable, high alumina castable, alkali resistant castable and light weight castable.
