The Refractory Requirements Of Oxygen-Fuel Glass Furnaces

In the oxygen-fuel glass furnace,due to the significant reduction of N2 and the increase of water vapor and volatile components, the high alkaline components and R2O or ROH seriously aggravate the corrosion of the furnace.

Silica brick with higher purity is required. Because of high creep resistance, low thermal conductivity, low specific gravity, low prices and low pollution to glass, silica brick is used in the traditional glass furnace. In the oxygen-fuel glass furnace, the service life of silcia brick is significantly shortened and becomes the weakest point of the furnace. However, many users and researchers still hope to be able to use silica brick. On one hand, Silica brick can still be used in the areas not eriously eroded. On the other hand, the quality of silica brick is greatly improved. 
 
Increasing the purity of silica brick and reducing the porosity and coefficient of thermal expansion of silcia brick can improve the ability of silcia brick to resist the erosion and alkali vapor. According to reports, in a 150t oxygen-fuel glass furnace, low porosity low calcium silica brick with a CaO content of 0.8% and a porosity of 18% can be used in the crown for 3.5 years without holes. Therefore, modified high purity silica brick can be used in the oxygen-fuel glass furnace.
 
During the erosion process, the glass phase of fused cast AZS block exude and is replaced by the molten glass; α-βAl2O3 is converted to α-βAl2O3; corundum is exhausted; refractory disintegrated; the residual baddeleyite enter the molten glass in the form of stones. 
 
Due to the high concentration of alkali vapor, fused cast AZS is subjected to more serious corrosion. Therefore, in oxygen-fuel glass furnaces, common fused cast AZS should be reduced and replaced withAZS block with lower exudation temperature of glass phase. 
 
α-β fused cast alumina block has an ideal crystalline structure composed of 45% α-Al2O3 and 55% β-Al2O3 as well as 1% impurities and 2% pores. Since it contains almost no silicate phase, the structure contains β-Al2O3 phase saturated with alkalis and β-Al2O3 and α-Al2O3 are intertwined each other to form a dense structure. The excellent crystalline structure makes it have excellent alkali vapor erosion resistance and almost no pollution to glass. it is the preferred material for the glass furnace. Therefore, α-β fused cast alumina block is recommended in the oxygen-fuel glass furnace. 
 
Rebonded fused magnesium aluminate spinel materials are made of high purity fused magnesium aluminate spinel sand by firing at high temeprature. They has good corrosion resistance and creep resistance. It has been on trial in the oxygen-fuel glass furnace.
