What is special refractory
With the development of the refractory industry, many new refractory materials emerge. Special refractory, also called high temperature ceramic material, is a set of new inorganic materials developed on the basis of traditional ceramic and refractories.
Those special refractories have the following characteristics:
(1) Most special refractories have been beyond the range of silicate refractories and have high purity, high grade and high melting point(above 2000℃).
(2) Their molding methods are not limited in semi-drying. In addition to mud casting and plastic molding, isostatic pressing, vapor deposition, thermal pressing and fused casting are also used. The raw materials are always micron (μm) level fine powder.
(3) The firing temperature is high (1600 ~ 2000 ℃, or even higher). They are calcined in various atmospheres or in vacuum.
(4) They can be made into various types: thick products(bricks, sticks and cans), thin products(tubes, plates, sheets, crucible), hollow spherical products, highly dispersed bulk materials, transparent or translucent products, fibers, a variety of jewel-like single crystal and superhard materials with a high hardness only prior to diamond.
(5) In addition to the fireproof properties, they also have better electrical, thermal, mechanical and chemical properties. They are widely used in addition to high temperature industry and other sectors.
