What Is Ceramic Fiber Paper

Ceramic fiber paper, also known as aluminum silicate fiber paper, is a new type of refractory material. It features light weight, high temperature resistance, carcinogen free and good insulation performance. It is a great alternative to asbestos in many applications.

Ceramic fiber paper is produced by ceramic fiber, binder and some additive through wet process. The binder will be burned out when fired.

It has the characteristics of stable chemical performance, resistance to most of the erosion of the chemicals, asbestos free, low thermal conductivity, excellent elasticity and flexibility and good dielectric strength. It has uniform fiber distribution and the paper thickness and density can be controlled strictly.

Ceramic fiber paper has a limit temperature which is also known as classification temperature or grade temperature. It is a sign of its high temperature resistance. According to the limit temperature, it can be divided into normal type(1000 ℃), standard type(1260 ℃), high alumina type(1360℃) and zircon type(1450℃). The limit temperature is the highest temperature it can resist to. The operation temperature should be lower than that.

Ceramic fiber paper in use will gradually turn black, because the binder can not resist to the high operation temperature and turn black. It does not affect the use of ceramic fiber paper, but it should be replaced in time.

The physical property like refractory and insulation keep same when meet with oil, water or steam. The paper is with smooth furnace and good flexibility, and can be cut into suitable size and twined. Besides, it has excellent dielectric strength.

Due to its excellent properties, ceramic fiber paper is generally used as thermal insulation, sealing, electrical insulation, sound absorption, and filtration materials. It can be used as the thermal insulation and sealing material in the inner lining of kilns and furnaces, ladles, immersion nozzles, the electrical insulation and sealing material in Industrial electric furnaces, and sealing material for the expansion joints.
